The Whopper sandwich is the signature hamburger product sold by the international fast-food restaurant chain Burger King and its Australian franchise Hungry Jack's. Introduced in 1957, it has undergone several reformulations including resizing and bread changes. The burger is one of the best known products in the fast food industry; it is so well known that Burger King bills itself as the Home of the Whopper in its advertising and signage. Additionally, the company uses the name in its high-end concept, the BK Whopper Bar. Due to its place in the marketplace, the Whopper has prompted Burger King's competitors, mainly McDonald's and Wendy's, to try to develop similar products designed to compete with it. [1]

If you take the Whopper sandwich "as is" on the menu without making any changes, you might find yourself disappointed with its overall composition. For me, I find the level of mayo put on the burgers to be overpowering.

Personally I go for the "Double Whopper" with no Mayo. Looking at Burger King's self-proclaimed nutrition facts, removing Mayo from a whopper takes off 140 calories. That is a lot of mayo!

So a Double Whopper with no Mayo is only 90 calories more than the single Whopper with mayo, and has a higher percentage of calories from protein.

Not that a hamburger could really be considered health food unless you go out of your way to use the healthiest ingredients you can find... and Burger King surely does not.

There have been some "state" Whoppers in the past. My favorite was the Texas whopper which I believe replaced the mayo with mustard and added jalapenos. Sadly I haven't seen that since 2006. The California whopper added some questionable attempt at being guacamole and maybe bacon and is not recommended.

Overall the Whopper is a decent sandwich but I find the patty too wide and thin. It's 1/4 lb but is the width of a 1/2 lb burger from other places and the height of a kid's burger. I usually get the double so it works out for me but the single is not my favorite.

If you love mayo you'll appreciate this burger more than I do.

Luke Martinez You are a good reviewer. Keep it up!

Anonymous BK is crap. McD's is much better.

For the regular folks, Burger King's Whopper is a safe choice of a burger. On average, Burger King's products are in the middle of the pack. Not as good as Carl's J, but better than McDonald's.

The Whopper's pattie tends to be a little too thin. There are better Burgers out there, even from Burger King, like the Steak Burger, Angus Burger or something, whose name don't stand out.

Jesse "Burgerm'n" Radin I agree the Whopper is a very safe choice if you just a standard fast food burger
